Description

Sidewalk musician,
the shoppers stop to listen.
Sweet sounds fill the air.

I've been interested in creative writing most of my life. I was an English major in college and worked as a children's librarian for several years and then had 3 children of my own. I sold advertising for 20 years and started The Scotchman City Edition. I went back to college and got a degree as a registered nurse and have spent the last 25 years working as a nurse. I love it!

Because I love music (I play a number of instruments, including guitar, harmonica, piano, ukulele, clarinet, violin, recorder, and I play bells in church bell choir) and I enjoy listening to music, I took special pleasure in hearing the musicians play that day in Armory Square.

I wrote my haiku based on that experience. Most of my poetry involves nature and feelings. I believe we should strive to be the best version of ourselves. Each day of life is a precious gift.

When I go somewhere I haven't been before, I enjoy just walking around. A big part of why I love to do this is to gather scenes from people in their day-to-day lives to include in my illustrations.

The haiku I selected embodies the experience of walking around this city. From walking around Thornden Park, Oakwood Cemetery, downtown, and Westcott, I've built up a little mental image of what Syracuse is to me.

Syracuse and the communities that have lived here for years have been welcoming in allowing me to be their guest for these last four years. I want this poster to serve as a thank you to the city that has become a home and helped me grow into the person I am today.
